Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information People n’ Books collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using People n’ Books you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account info — your name, email, and (if you use a provider) a Google/GitHub/Spotify account identifier. Your signals — the titles of podcasts and audiobooks you add or import, which we use to compute your analysis. Profile & preferences — your city, bio, privacy toggles, and settings. Usage — basic technical data needed to run the Service (e.g., session cookies).

How we use it

To provide the Service: compute your vector and lineage, show discoverable members and aggregate city stats, enable intros you opt into, send transactional email (introductions, password resets), and keep the Service secure. We do not sell your personal information.

What other members see

If your profile is discoverable, other members in your city can see your name, vector, and — subject to your privacy toggles — your approximate distance and shared signals. You control these under Profile → privacy settings, and you can turn off discoverability at any time.

Service providers

We share data with vendors that operate the Service on our behalf: hosting/database (Vercel, Neon), email (Resend), and catalog/map lookups you trigger (podcast/book catalogs, map geocoding, and Spotify if you connect it). They process data only to provide their service.

Cookies

We use a single, essential, http-only session cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.

Retention & deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your profile — this removes your profile, signals, analysis, and connections. Some records may persist briefly in backups or where required by law.

Security

Passwords are hashed (bcrypt), sessions are signed, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. You can exercise most of these in-app (edit your signals, adjust privacy, delete your account) or by contacting us.

Children

People n’ Books is for adults 18+. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be communicated by reasonable means.
